Parts of Blemished Bloomfield Park Could Tumble Soon
A new plan for the development, stalled since 2008, is in the works with Southfield-based REDICO. Two buildings could be spared.

It looks like a blemish could be removed by early next year from Telegraph Road on the Bloomfield Township and Pontiac line.
Once the site of a promising $350 million development called Bloomfield Park, the 80-acre tract south of Orchard Lake Road has been vacant since construction faltered in 2008.
Developers had put $250 million into the project before it crashed with economy in 2008. The original plan was for 80 retail shops, office space, a luxury hotel, a movie theater, two lakes and more than 1,000 residences.

Demolition of some of the rusting, graffiti-covered eyesore is set to begin in December and end in March, but Southfield-based REDICO, the owner of the property, plans to keep two of the structures.
Bloomfield Township Supervisor Leo Savoie said the demolition plan is still in preliminary stages, but it looks most of the demoliton would take place on the Pontiac side of the failed development.

The site could eventually include some national tenants, as well as 500- to 600-square-foot apartments for empty-nesters and millennials. Savoies said the apartments would of high quality and would meet a demand that REDICO, a national company with a track record for developing senior housing, has reportedly identified in he area.
The development could also have a grocery store, movie theater and a full-service hotel, but Savoie emphasized “it’s all very, very preliminary.”
REDICO’s area developments include The Palace of Auburn Hills.
