Police: Woman Fatally Stabbed Father, Then Overdosed
Victim's wife, who is physically disabled, didn't know her husband and daughter were dead during the first of two welfare checks.

PONTIAC, MI – Investigators said Thursday the deaths of Walter R. Heil, 57, of Pontiac, found stabbed to death Wednesday morning, and his daughter, Katty Ann Heil, 31, appear to be the result of a murder and drug overdose.
Police made two welfare checks at the residence in the 300 block of Central Avenue in Wednesday, the first about 8:14 a.m. at the request of out-of-state relatives who had been unable to reach Walter Heil, Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe said in a statement.
Deputies left after a Heil’s 54-year-old wife said “everything was fine,” but returned to the residence after receiving a call at 1:18 p.m. when Walter Heil didn’t show up for work, McCabe said.

Deputies entered the residence and found Heil’s wife sitting on the floor. She is “physically disabled and appears to have a mental illness,” McCabe said.
During a subsequent search of the residence, investigators discovered the body Katty Ann Heil, a “known drug user,” on the second floor, according to the statement. There were no signs of trauma, and hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia were found near her body.

In the basement, they discovered the body of Walter Heil, who had sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
Walter Heil’s wife told police her daughter had been involved in a physical altercation. Because of her physical and mental disabilities, she did not know her husband and daughter were dead when authorities made the first welfare check, McCabe said.
She was taken to an area hospital for observation.
The investigation indicates Katty Ann Heil took a quantity of drugs that likely caused her death, McCabe said, but authorities are waiting on the results of a toxicology examination to confirm that.
The investigation is continuing.
