UPDATED: Power Restored at Lahser; Classes on Thursday!

Updated 2:20 p.m.: DTE restored power to Lahser High School this afternoon, and regularly-scheduled classes will resume Thursday morning, district officials confirmed via Twitter.

Lahser High School was closed again today due to a lingering power outage that started with Superstorm Sandy's high winds and left hundreds in Bloomfield in the dark.

More than 400 customers were still without power this morning, according to the DTE Outage Map. The majority of the homes are located in the area immediately east of Telegraph Road on both north and south sides of Long Lake Road.

The estimated restoration time for the area outage is between 9:30-11:30 p.m. on Thursday. The power went out at about 7 p.m. Monday, forcing officials to cancel classes early Tuesday. It was unclear whether school would resume today until about 4 a.m., district spokeswoman Shira Good said.

She insisted the closure is strictly related to the power situation, and not due to any structural problems at Lahser, refuting rumors that circulated on social media Tuesday about issues with the school's roof. All practices and other scheduled activities in the building are cancelled today as well.

DTE Energy spokesman John Austerberry on Tuesday said it would be difficult to tell when crews could have power restored to the area until high winds calmed down.

"Once the winds subside and we see the scope of what it is we have to respond to, we'll have a better idea," he said.
