Residents Cancel Alarm, Return to Find They’ve Been Robbed: Police

Also, appliance thieves are targeting homes that were recently remodeled or in the process of being remodeled, police said.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — Residents of a home on the 3700 block of W. Wabeek Lake Drive lost about $4,000 worth of personal items in home burglary — after they received an alert that their home security alarm had been activated and they told the company not to call police, according to a news release from the Bloomfield Township Police Department.

The residents left their home about 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 and had been gone about 15 minutes when they received the notification from the security company, according to the release. When they returned home at 7:30 p.m., they found the front door had been broken in and they had been robbed.

Police said it’s a mistake for residents to cancel an active alarm unless they’re sure it was accidentally tripped. Police are investigating.
