Romney on SNL: Will He Make a Cameo Appearance?

Will Mitt Romney make an appearance on Saturday Night Live? And would such an appearance help him or hurt him in his quest to reach the White House?

The question has been batted around, and Ann Romney addressed it Thursday in a wide-ranging interview on Entertainment Tonight, saying she wasn't sure whether her husband would appear, but that he's actually a "very funny guy" and that the caricatures on the show couldn't be more off.

Romney told Diane Sawyer during an ABC News interview earlier in the month that an appearance "sounds like a lot of fun" but that "it would depend on the nature of the skit. I want it to be funny."

According to a column by Maureen Dowd of The New York Times, SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels has offered a guest spot to Romney, who is considering it.

Several former candidates for the presidential nomination have appeared on Saturday Night Live, including Sarah Palin, Ralph Nadar, Al Sharpton and John McCain, although only one sitting president has said "Live, from New York!" That was Gerald Ford, on April 17, 1976.
