Shred Identity Thieves' Hopes on the Fly in Oakland County Friday

Clever identity thieves, who aren't above rummaging through your trash to get your information, won't like this 1-hour event at all.

PONTIAC, MI – Crooks look for every opportunity they can find to get your personal information, and even your trash isn’t safe

A free, drive-through document shredding event offered by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is designed to help residents dispose of unnecessary documents in a way that protects their identities.

The event is for one hour only, from 9-10 a.m., Friday, May 27.

Document shredding is available to residents only and the service is not being extended to businesses, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a news release announcing the partnership with Shred Corp.

Shred Corp. will park its high-volume shredding truck at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Bldg. 38E, for the shredding event.

The truck will be ready to receive documents, at 9 a.m., so it’s a good idea to arrive early. Typically, there’s a line of cars, though the line moves quickly, Bouchard said.

Residents are asked to limit documents to three or four boxes of paper only.
