When Do Clocks Spring Forward for Daylight Saving Time 2015?

Bundled up in all those layers and covered with a fleece blanket, have you been thinking spring will never come? Cheer up. One of the harbingers of the gentler season is just around the corner: Daylight Saving Time officially begins Sunday, March 8.

The time change officially takes place at 2 a.m., but you don’t have to spring out of bed and move the big hand on your clock ahead an hour. The change is automatic for most smartphones, computers, tablets and other digital devices.

But if you’re still using an analog alarm clock, you’ll probably want to move it ahead before you go to sleep on Saturday, March 7, or when you wake up the next morning.

We can’t promise the weather will turn forgiving as the clocks spring forward. In its long-range forecast for the Detroit metro, Accuweather.com predicts temperatures in the in the 30s, below the normal temperature of about 40 for that time of year. Alas, Accuweather doesn’t expect the 50s to return to the area until April.

Still, the longer days and the beginning of daylight saving time are associated with the end of the SAD (seasonal affected disorder) season, giving people an extra hour of daylight to enjoy after they got off work. SAD is clinical form of depression that is believed to affect about 5 percent of the U.S. population.

Here’s a bonus for you sticklers for accuracy out there: Though many people refer to the day clocks move forward as the beginning of daylight savings time, it’s technically daylight saving time.
