Woman Fatally Shot While Jogging ID'd; Suspect Vehicle Sought

Police don't think the shooting of a 31-year-old jogger in northern Oakland County was random.

ROSE TOWNSHIP, MI — The identity of a 31-year-old woman who was fatally shot while jogging in Rose Township Saturday has been released by Michigan State Police, who said the woman — Alexandra Nicolette Brueger, of Holly Township — may have been targeted.

Police received the call to a residence on the 11000 block of Fish Lake Road in northern Oakland County about 2:35 p.m. after Brueger was found bleeding from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc.

Police don’t have a suspect but are looking for a “white or light colored four-door sedan” that “may have been acting suspicious or traveling at a high rate of speed” between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., near the time of the shooting, Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said, according to a report in The Detroit News.

Brueger may have known her killer, Shaw said, adding that investigators are working to determine if there are individuals she “might have been having some kind of difficulties with.”

Brueger’s death is the first homicide in Rose Township in 20 years. The township doesn’t have its own police force, and policing is provided by the MSP. According to The Detroit News, township officials are considering a law enforcement contract with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Troopers and detectives from the Second District Special Investigation Section canvassed the area and gathered evidence from the crime scene immediately after Brueger’s body was found. Anyone with information is asked to call (877) MICH-TIP.

Neighbors told investigators they heard several gunshots but weren’t alarmed because the area is popular with hunters and target shooters. However, one resident stepped outside to investigate and saw the bleeding woman on the lawn and called 911, according to media reports.
