📰 News we're reading

1. Brighton High School had 2 Hawaiian students in 2024-25 (livingstontoday.com) — Brighton High School enrolled 1,887 students in 2024-25, including just two Hawaiian students, continuing a decade-long trend of very small Hawaiian representation. The Michigan Department of Education data show Brighton's enrollment has gradually declined since 2015-16, mirroring statewide drops, while white students still make up more than 92% of the student body.

2. Record book: Livingston County football top performances (livingstondaily.com) — If you follow Brighton football, this deep dive into Livingston County's all-time passing, rushing, and receiving records is packed with Bulldog standouts like Drew Henson, Cullen Finnerty, and recent stars. It highlights which Brighton seasons, single games, and players still top the county charts and which current athletes are closing in on those marks.

3. Two motorcyclists left in critical condition after crash in Iosco Twp. (bluewaterhealthyliving.com) — A 33-year-old Brighton man and a 27-year-old Howell man were critically injured Saturday when their motorcycles collided on Gregory Road in Iosco Township. Sheriff's officials say the Brighton rider's high-speed Suzuki sideswiped the other bike, sending him about 200 feet into the woods and closing the roadway for four hours while investigators worked the scene.

4. Road Commission for Oakland County to Start $1M Bridge Preventative Maintenance (whmi.com) — Drivers heading toward Novi, Lyon Township, or Waterford should expect lane restrictions as Oakland County launches a $1 million bridge maintenance program on seven structures, including Grand River over Kent Lake. In the same local news roundup, Brighton readers will notice a shout-out for the Brighton Garden Club's new statewide beautification honor and an update on a recent Iosco Township motorcycle crash.
