1. Exploring Michigan: A unique collection at the museum next to Refrigeration Research, Inc. (thecw46.com) — A long-running Brighton refrigeration company is inviting residents to explore its free museum on North Fifth Street, packed with historic refrigerators, radios, and industry artifacts. Recognized as a mechanical engineering landmark, the collection highlights Michigan's deep ties to refrigeration and auto manufacturing, offering students, hobbyists, and curious locals a nostalgic, educational outing just off downtown's main drag.
2. Livingston County COA announces grants for senior-focused nonprofits (livingstondaily.com) — Brighton seniors and caregivers should know the Brighton Senior Center just received a grant to expand its Grandparent Camp, and a major Aging Parents Resource Fair is coming Sept. 29 to 2|42 Community Church in Brighton. Ten Livingston County nonprofits each earned $1,000 to boost services like home safety, dental care, wellness programs, and social activities for older adults.
3. Three high schools in Livingston County among Michigan's Top 150 (livingstondaily.com) — Brighton families can celebrate that Brighton High School ranks 57th in Michigan, earning strong marks for college readiness, curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. Two other Livingston County schools also made the state's Top 150, while Howell, Pinckney, and Fowlerville received detailed scores that help parents compare local high school performance.
4. Multiracial students made up 0.6% of FlexTech High School enrollment in 2024-25 (livingstontoday.com) — Families connected to FlexTech High School will see how enrollment and diversity are shifting, with one multiracial student making up 0.6% of the 171-student body in 2024–25. The school's district office is based in Brighton, and the report also notes Michigan's higher per-pupil funding, continued free meals, and expanded support for pre-K and community college that could affect local students' options.
5. Bollin pledges scrutiny of state health department contracts following auditor general report (newsfromthestates.com) — State Rep. Ann Bollin of Brighton is pressing Michigan's health department to tighten oversight of contracts with the Michigan Public Health Institute after an auditor general report flagged weak documentation and monitoring. For Brighton residents, her scrutiny could influence how billions in health dollars are tracked, how quickly the state responds to outbreaks, and how transparently Lansing reports back to lawmakers and the public.
