• Livingston County COA announces grants for senior-focused nonprofits (livingstondaily.com) — Brighton seniors and caregivers can benefit from new $1,000 grants awarded to the Brighton Senior Center and other local programs, plus an upcoming resource fair in town. The Aging Parents Resource Fair runs 3–7 p.m. Sept. 29 at 2|42 Community Church in Brighton, offering information on services like transportation, home safety, and respite care.
   

• HAFD: Homeowner Sparked Garage Fire While Refueling Generator (whmi.com) — Brighton-area firefighters assisted Howell crews at a serious garage fire sparked when a homeowner refueled a running generator during storm-related outages. No one was hurt, but the home and garage suffered extensive damage, and officials are urging Brighton residents to keep generators at least 10 feet from structures and never refuel them while running or hot.
   

• 138 white students enrolled at FlexTech High School in 2024-25 (livingstontoday.com) — FlexTech High School, whose district office is based in Brighton, enrolled 171 students in 2024-25, with white students making up 80.7% of the population. State data show a long-term decline in both total and white enrollment, even as Michigan boosts per-pupil funding, preserves free meals, and fully funds pre-K and community college.
