The Detroit Wine Organization and Team Joseph present “In Vino Speranza,” a charity wine tasting event on Thursday, May 9 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Lingenfelter Car Collection, one of the largest private car collections in the nation. Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Rick Porcello will once again serve as honorary chair for the evening.
Proceeds from the event benefit Team Joseph, a 501©3 non-profit organization whose mission is to fund cutting edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The wine tasting will include more than 70 wines from around the world, Michigan craft beer sampling and strolling dinner, from such restaurants as Artisans in Culinary and Rojo Mexican Bistro. In addition, guests may participate in a silent auction, raffle and various wine-themed games, such as pull-a-cork.

Find out what's happening in Brightonfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rapidly progressing degenerative genetic muscle disorder, primarily affecting young boys, which causes loss of muscle mobility and function. In fact, 99 percent of the almost 20,000 new cases each year are boys; meaning 1 boy out of every 3,500 will be diagnosed. There currently is no treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
About Team Joseph:
Team Joseph is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a mission to aggressively fund cutting-edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Formed around the fight of Joseph Penrod, Team Joseph began with a mom who wouldn’t let her son be defined by his diagnosis, and with the support of family, friends and an army of volunteers, has evolved into the movement it is today.
