Pinckney, Mich. – Students from Pathfinder Middle School and Pinckney High School will don their bathing suits on Friday, March 1, for a “Swim-In” event hosted by It Stops with Students and The Pinckney Coalition. The event will raise money for Safe Kids Huron Valley to purchase cribs for families in need. Nearly 150 babies died last year in Michigan due to unsafe sleep conditions.
“Over the past two years, millions of cribs have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for unsafe conditions,” said Amber Kroeker, Safe Kids Huron Valley Coordinator and Injury Prevention Health Educator for Mott Children’s Hospital. “All new cribs on the market today meet the safety standards of the CPSC. However, if getting a used crib, parents should check to see if it has been recalled at www.recalls.gov. Also, parents should NEVER attempt to repair a broken crib. Infants should be put to sleep on their back on a firm mattress that fits snugly in the frame, and nothing should be placed in the crib with the infant (blankets, pillows, toys, bumper pads).”
The “Swim-In” will be held at the Pathfinder Middle School pool (2100 M-36, Pinckney) from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., at a cost of $5 per student, and it will include swim time and a movie. Concessions will also be available for purchase.

It Stops With Students (ISWS) is a group of students from Pathfinder Middle School and Pinckney Community High School who meet to provide an alternative activity for teens that is fun, engaging, and entertaining and works to reform attitudes around youth alcohol and drug use in the Pinckney community.
“Our last event was a Dodge ball tournament which raised $400 to purchase gifts for Pinckney families in need around the holiday,” said Erin Murphy, advisor for It Stops with Students. “We host events about four times a year to involve the students in helping the community.”
