Baker College nursing program director honored by international, national organizations

Named a Worldwide Leader in Healthcare and Phi Kappa Phi

Shannon Meijer, RN, MSN, director of nursing at Baker College’s Owosso campus, has been recognized as a Worldwide Leader in Healthcare by the International Nurses Association (INA) and invited to join the graduate honor society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Meijer was nominated for the INA honor anonymously by one of her peers for her service as a leader in nursing education and a role model for nurses in training.

“Shannon is most deserving of these international and national recognitions,” said Aaron J. Maike, Baker College of Owosso president. “Her leadership of Baker College’s nursing program has helped maintain its high level of quality.”

Meijer said, “I’m fortunate to have had outstanding leadership role models over the years at Baker College. A strong leader is supported by an equally strong team; one cannot be without the other.”

As a student in the doctorate of nursing practice program at Jacksonville University, Florida, Meijer was also recently named to The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and largest, all-discipline honor society. This invitation-only honor is extended to the top 10 percent of graduate students.
