Brighton High School helps Detroit through Senior Serve
Over 100 seniors from Brighton High School go to Detroit to help the less fortunate.

On Saturday October 24th, over 100 students took a trip down to Detroit to help out people in need. The students stayed in Cass Community United Methodist Church for three days and two nights. They were involved in activities and services such as working in the kitchen and making door mats from used tires.
This trip was designed by student Sarah Wood in 2013 as a club for community service. Quickly, many students wanted to participate in it and the club grew. Any of the students who want to attend, signed up at school year registration.
“This is my first year participating but my family has been involved since the start,” senior Jack Ivers said.

“The best memory of years before was when some of the students played basketball with some of the families,” teacher Pat Ivers said.
P. Ivers has also been attending the trip since its inception and has always had a great time. She loved seeing all of the students working having dinner in the lower level of the shelter. The dinner was cooked by the students themselves.
Many students had a great and safe trip. They have never had a problem with the safety of the students.
“I’m really excited to experience something in Detroit completely different than what you’re used to here in Brighton,” senior Gabrielle Wihongi said.
She thought this trip went very well and that it turned out to be a life changing experience.
