Brighton High Schools soccer game for a cause
Brighton High School host a soccer game for a cause. They raise money to donate to American Cancer Society.

Brighton High School came together this month to do something that is always appreciated and needed: raise cancer awareness. Superintendent Dr. Greg Gray, BHS staff and students came together to put on a Good Cause soccer game in honor of one of their very own teachers, Ann Horn fighting that battle. The soccer game had two teams, orange and blue, playing in Horn’s honor. Every penny earned from the soccer game was donated to the American Cancer Society in her name.
This game was similar to last year’s which was in honor of Avery Pollack who passed after his heroic battle with cancer. Both games sole purpose was to raise awareness of the deadly disease and to help raise money for the cause as well. Both Horn and Pollack share a deep place in Brighton and Brighton High School’s heart. Staff member Bridget McKiddy was a big part in putting on both this and last year’s game.
“Overall the game was fun. All the players and people that came out to support seemed to be having fun. The attendance this year was about the same as last, which was a good turnout for both. It was such an encouraging and uplifting environment despite the fact that the game unfortunately had to be moved indoors,” McKiddy said.

Every individual who played this year in the Good Cause game not only went out and played to help the cause, but they went out for Horn because she can’t. Senior Kelcie Mitter who was a member of the blue team during the game was more than happy to step up and help make a difference.
“It was a very fun experience being able to all get together as a school and do something new for such a good and important cause,” Mitter said.

Another blue team member Faith Chomin was excited to help out and see everyone come together as a school to support Horn.
“With Mrs.Horn being the amazing individual she is she deserved this game and deserves so much more. No one playing or attending the game had one negative thought knowing we were helping raise awareness for such an amazing cause,” Chomin said.
