Brighton Patch Whiz Kid: Caroline Barraco

Caroline Barraco, 15

School: , 10th grade

Accomplishments: Caroline has been accepted to the University of Iowa's Young Writer's Studio, which is a prestigious workshop for young writers. More than 500 students applied for 130 spots and it is taught by professors from Iowa's creative writing program. She also attends ISHALL (Intensive Studies in Humanities, Arts, Language and Literature), a program at Michigan State University taught by the Chair of MSU's English department.

Caroline has maintained an "A" average and will finish four years of high school honors English in two years. She is a member of BHS varsity Science Olympiad and Quiz Bowl teams. Caroline has worked at the for the past two years as a shelver. This was a position she earned after several years of volunteer work at the library.

Key to Awesomeness: "The way to accomplish something is through dedication. If there's something you really want to excel at, then you have to focus on and nurture it. There's no way to get better but through practice. I write almost every night, and it has definitely helped me improve."
