Cleary University breaks ground on student apartment complex
HOWELL – Cleary University broke ground on a new student apartment complex Jan. 15 at its Livingston Campus in Howell.
“It is a very special day for all of us and there are so many exciting things happening at the University. This is a very exciting time to be a part of Cleary University,” Cleary University President Tom Sullivan told the crowd of more than 100 that packed Richards Hall. “This is one part of the continuous effort to serve our students everyday. That is what we are all about. That is what we have been all about. It has been our goal for 130 years and it will continue to be our goal.”

“It just feels good to be involved with an institution that is so engrained in the community,” said Raymond King III, chairman of the Cleary University Board of Trustees. “We are excited about this transformation and change in Cleary University. And we look forward to these things continuing.”
The three-story structure will have 87 beds and is scheduled to open later this year.

University Housing Solutions (UHS), based in Columbus, Ohio, is the design team for the new facility. Howell-based Boss Engineering also is working on the project.
“We just started talking about this project about three months ago and here we are at groundbreaking,” said Jim Schmidt, president of UHS. “This is exciting. Working with smaller colleges and universities is our niche and this has been one of the best administrations we have worked with. We are pleased and excited to be partners on this project.”
Schmidt said that this is not a traditional college residence hall.
“This is suite-style housing,” Schmidt said. “This is what the students want and what the parents want. This is the type of housing that can help drive enrollment.”
Cleary University’s (cleary.edu) mission is to enrich students’ lives through the knowledge, skills and credentials that advance careers.
