2 Brighton Businesses Discover Counterfeit Money
Police say the bills were high quality photocopies on heavy paper that made the bills feel quite real.

Two businesses in Brighton discovered fake $20 bills had been used for purchases, according to an advisory message from the Michigan State Police- Brighton Post.Β The bills were high quality photocopies on heavy paper that made the bills feel quite real.Β
According to the advisory, several clues tipped off the businesses when the bills were later examined more closely including:Β
- Some thin areas along the edges of the paper were whiteΒ
- Held up to the light, there was no security threadΒ
- Serial numbers were the same on two billsΒ
- Finally, a security pen swiped on the paper turned a dark color (pens available at any office supply)Β
Michigan State Police alsoΒ remind the public that if inΒ doubt dial 911 and an officer will respond as itΒ is the proper phone number for all requests for police/fire/medical in Livingston County andΒ not just for emergencies.
