STEM Classes at Sylvan Learning of Brighton
Robotics and game design classes that teach STEM based concepts in a fun environment

What does STEM mean? STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. It’s a big focus in education around the country because the demand for STEM jobs is so high. Projections show that the increase for STEM related careers is far outpacing growth in all other occupations. By 2020 there will be 1 million more computer science jobs added to the workforce. Data shows it’s important to get kids started in STEM early on. In fact, 4 out 5 college students majoring in a STEM field made the decision to do so in high school or earlier. At Sylvan, we want to build excitement for STEM early on, so our classes are designed to be fun and interactive.
Coding (Game Design): A STEM class for students in 3rd-8th grade. Students design their own video games by using visual and intuitive building blocks that make it easy to learn and use. They will build cool projects, create animations and sound effects, and build actual video games using Tynker™ technology. Students do not need to be experienced in this field to do our classes. Classes are 6 weeks in length and will begin in June 2016
Robotics: A STEM class for students in 2nd-6th grade. Students will use LEGO® bricks and WeDo technology to program different types of robots that will move and make sounds! Students do not need to be experienced in this field to do our classes. Classes are 6 weeks in length and will begin in June 2016.
