Students take on the undefeated staff in the annual basketball game
20 senior boys and girls challenge the 5-0 staff in the student vs staff basketball game to raise money for prom 2016.

Seen as the ultimate competition between the students at Brighton High School and the Staff that support them, the staff vs. student basketball game is the one chance that the two groups have to face off against one another, as a group of randomly selected BHS seniors play a short game of basketball against the faculty that teaches them. The students came in looking to get their first win ever. The teachers were 5-0 going into the game, but unfortunately, the students could not keep up with the teachers as the staff ended up pulling out the win, leaving the students behind in the dust, still looking for their first win after six long years.
“I was pretty confident,” senior Andrew Boskovich said.
“ We felt like [the staff] were really overhyped, but I guess they pulled it out” Boskovich said.

For a while, it felt like the students had control of the game, going into halftime with a 16-11 lead.
“I think we started out slow, but we gained some momentum and never looked back,” psychology teacher Nate Grabowski said.

In the second half, the staff started to play much better as a team. They outscored the students 18-6 in the second half, thanks to biology teacher Jonathan Wendrick as he became more and more dominant as the game progressed.
“Wendrick had the shot. We were leaving him space and he was knocking them down. Without him, I feel like it would have been a closer game,” Boscovich said.
Riding Wendrick’s hot hand in the second half, the staff pulled away from the students and finished the game with a final score of 29-22. Wendrick was being called the “Kobe of the staff,” comparing him to all star NBA player Kobe Bryant.
“We have superior age, we have superior athleticism, we have superior strength, we have superior wisdom, and we have old man/women savvy,” Wendrick said.
With all these things going for them, it’s no wonder that the teachers won, improving their record to 6-0 all time against the students.
“We have experience at winning. It’s all we do. We [barely got] by the first, but the train hasn’t stopped rolling since,”Grabowski said.
Now the students will have to wait another year to even get another chance to take the staff off of the throne, but after their six game win streak, the teachers now believe that they will never lose.
“Not while I’m here, I won’t let it happen,” Grabowski said.
Until then, the students can only stay hopeful that they will do better next year. They must look to the future as the staff celebrate their sixth straight win.
