What Is The Hidden Curriculum? The ASSUMED and EXPECTED details of life's social rules.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a social communication and language
disorder.  A person on the autism spectrum does not naturally "get"
social situations and needs to be taught the details of almost every
social situation that they encounter or will encounter.

If you say phrases such as these then very likely a hidden curriculum situation has been violated:

  • I shouldn't have to tell you, but...
  • It should be obvious that...
  • Everyone knows that...
  • No one ever...
Violating one of these hidden curriculum situations will make a person appear odd and a social outcast i.e. "when
and where to pick your nose", "when and how long to stare at a female",
"on the job site recognizing when a customer needs your assistance",
"when and how often to share in a classroom setting".
