X-Games: Detroit
Detroit's bid for X-Games has fallen through as many now know. Organizers have cited Austin, Texas to be a safer option from an economic stand point. Can you blame them? The city is in financial chaos as bankruptcy courts battle out what will stay and what will go in this great city of ours. X-Games wanted nothing to do with that. Unfortunately, it will be the citizens ones again who will pay the price for ill management of financial issues plagued by this city. Here is the question; how will this impact the 17 year old skateboarder who has been dreaming of this moment to shine? Or the 18 year old girl who has a passion for BMX? Further more, will this impact the revival of our great city? If we consistently put politics over citizens, we can assure one thing for certain. In the end, only the people lose. It will not be the city council member. It will not be Dan Gilbert. It will not be the special interests involved with contracts and special deals. It will be the 17 year old kid who aspires for greatness who is inhibited by a flawed system of political agendas and selfish ideology.
In the next few weeks, I will be on the ground in metro Detroit seeking out groups of people whom had a dream. You will see their faces, hear their stories and see what it means to believe in not only yourself, but also a city to be resurrected. The faith of these great citizens is what will rebuild us. We shall never give up hope for a better tomorrow.
More to come on this subject, as we have just begun....
