• Washington Middle School sixth graders attend School Camp at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp (uppermichiganssource.com) — Calumet's Washington Middle School sixth graders are spending three days at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp, building teamwork, leadership, and confidence alongside Calumet High School JROTC student counselors. Teachers say the long-running tradition helps kids bond beyond their usual friend groups while enjoying structured outdoor activities away from screens. Some campers later return as JROTC leaders themselves.
   

• Defendant in US-41 motorcycle deaths case not offered plea deal, prosecutor confirms (uppermichiganssource.com) — A Houghton County driver charged in a fatal US-41 crash near Calumet's Michigan State Police Post will head to a pre-trial hearing October 23 without a plea deal on the table. Prosecutors say the August collision killed two South Carolina motorcyclists after the driver allegedly crossed the center line while avoiding a turning truck. The case remains in 97th District Court.
