Chelsea, MI--Mrs. Joan Marie Schnaidt (nee Dunne), a long-time resident of Chelsea, Michigan died on November 19, 2012 in her home surrounded by her family.
Joan was born May 4, 1937, the fifth of seven children of James and Helen Dunne in Queens, New York. Joan graduated from Queens Nursing School in 1960 as a Registered Nurse. She was married in June 1960 and had five children: Michael, Michele, and Matthew were born in New York City; Joan and Nancy were born in Ann Arbor, Michigan where the family moved in 1967.
In 1979 Joan was remarried to Dan Schnaidt and adopted three children Alonzo, Benita, and Dan. The family lived in the Jackson and Chelsea areas.

Even while busy raising a family, Joan worked as an RN at the University of Michigan hospital and other healthcare organizations in the Ann Arbor, Chelsea and Jackson areas.
Joan loved University of Michigan Football, had season tickets for over 30 years, and watched the last two 2012 games at her home while in hospice care. Although raised in the city, Joan began farming with Dan and her children and was active in 4H.

Joan was a devout Catholic, she volunteered at Faith in Action, and was an active member of the Third Order of St. Francis.
She is survived by her sister Virginia and brother Francis, her eight children, four grandchildren, and her loving husband Dan. She was preceded by her parents, and siblings Cathleen, Joseph, James and Dorothy.
The Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, has been entrusted with arrangements. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Friday November 23, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 14200 East Old US Highway 12, Chelsea, MI 48118. A visitation will be held at 9:00 AM Friday at St. Mary’s.
