Dear Theater Friends,
Hello! Come see us Thursday, January 30, at 7 p.m. at CHS for our single public performance of Red Dress Diaries, a new play that will make you laugh, think, and cry.
Chelsea students gave a fabulous presentation at District Competition this Saturday, January 25, at Chelsea High.
Chelsea High School was invited by Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association (MIFA) to host Districts for One Act Competition 2014. CHS was one of five high schools to present their 45-minute play for the festival.
Judges included Guy Sanville, Artistic Director at Purple Rose; David Wolber, Artistic Director at Performance Network; and Leslie Hull, professional actor and part-time faculty at Eastern Michigan University.
Plays are adjudicated based on acting, technical aspects, adaptation of the script, and overall presentation. Awards are given for exemplary work.
CHS presented Red Dress Diaries, a newly published play by Coralie Cederna Johnson (yes, she's my mother! yes, she's a playwright!). Red Dress Diaries (RDD) is a collection of monologues and ensemble scenes. The play deals with a variety of social issues, handled with authenticity, integrity and sensitivity. The playwright has given voice to an array of characters, addressing such matters as bullying, peer pressure, racism, eating disorders, broken dreams...and many more.
CHS was honored to receive Excellence in Acting awards for the entire ensemble. An award for Superior Acting was awarded to cast member Brigitte Demelo. I couldn't be prouder of the whole group, including all of the students and parents and staff who helped behind the scenes to make this show a success.
You have one chance to catch our show! We would be honored to have you join us this Thursday, January 30, at 7 p.m. at CHS Auditorium (740 N. Freer Rd., Chelsea, MI 48118). Admission is only $6.
Please come for a chance to see this remarkable piece of theater. It will be unlike anything you've ever seen. It will touch you deeply. It may even change your life.
Red Dress Diaries changed the life of each of us working on this exceptionally moving, beautiful play.
Join us! Tickets available at the door. Cash or check accepted. General admission seating.
Upcoming competition dates:
February 8 Regionals
February 14-15 State Finals
Thank you! See you Thursday!
