Chelsea Approves 3-Year Contact for Police Protection

The 11-member police force will not receive a pay raise during the first year of the new contract.

The City of Chelsea agreed to a three-year contract with the Police Officers Association of Michigan at its meeting on Tuesday.

According to the Chelsea Update, under the agreement, the 11 officers will see a 20 percent increase in their share of the monthly medical insurance premiums. However, they will receive a one-time $500 signing bonus in the first year.

Both the police officer’s cleaning allowance and their education achievement stipend were increased by $150 in the first year.

Dispatchers were given a clothing allowance and were also given a cleaning allowance of $200 per year paid out quarterly at $50 per quarter.

There is also a one-year lay-off protection clause for the first year of the contract.
