Chelsea Police Respond to Vehicle Fire on South Street

The following information was supplied by the Chelsea Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Chelsea Police responded to a vehicle fire in the 200 block of South Street on Aug. 23.

Upon arrival, the fire had been extinguished by citizens in the area. According to police reports, an investigation determined no foul play was involved and the cause of the fire was mechanical failure.

Larceny

The Chelsea Police Department responded to a larceny complaint near the 20000 block of West Old US-12 on Aug. 23.

According to police, while on routine patrol, a woman reported that her purse had fallen down beneath the football bleachers. The purse was eventually returned with multiple items including keys and money missing, the woman told police. The case is under investigation.

Driving with a suspended license

The responded to a vehicle accident near the intersection of South Main Street and East Old US-12 on Aug. 23. 

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with both parties involved. After performing a routine computer check it was determined that one driver, a 65-year-old Chelsea woman, currently had a suspended driver’s license and also had no vehicle registration or insurance. The woman was ticketed and the vehicle was towed to a repair shop.

Fraud

The Chelsea Police Department responded to a complaint of fraud near the 700 block of W. Industrial Drive on Aug. 23.

According to police, a local business tried to cash a check that had been written for more than $2,600. The check was denied due to lack of sufficient funds. Attempts to contact the suspect, a 39-year-old Fenton man, have been unsuccessful.
