Chelsea School Board Approves 2-Year Contact with Teachers Union
Chelsea teachers will receive a 2 percent wage increase during the next two years as part of the contract negotiations.

The Chelsea Schools Board of Education appoved a new two-year contract with the Chelsea Education Association at its meeting on Monday.
The contract began Sept. 10, 2012 and continues through June 30, 2014.
According to Chelsea Update, the contract covers 142 district employees. Teachers will receive a 2 percent wage increase on the salary schedule, however the previous 11-step pay scale has been changed to a 15-step scale.

With the new contact, teachers will be paying slightly more for their health insurance costs as well.
The district will pay $5,425 for a single teacher, $10,750 for a couple and $14,500 for a family for health care costs.

In other board action:
- The board approved the purchase of a video distribution system, using 2009 technology bond fund monies, from Sentinal in the amount of $85,270. The video system will replace the district's outdated equipment and will allow for streamlining video content in all district buildings.
