SYLVAN TOWNSHIP — With the final votes tallied up, residents of Sylvan Township elected Scott Cooper as their supervisor for the next four years.

According to unofficial election results provided by the township, Cooper received 905 votes to defeat incumbent Robert Lange. Lange collected 731 votes.

"I am pleased with the results and thank voters for their time, patience and support," Cooper said Tuesday night. "I think everyone is a little battle worn from the long campaign, but it's nice to get the support of the people. I hope to do them proud."

Roy Schmidt and Kurt Koseck were elected to the Sylvan Township Board of Trustees. Schmidt received 1,001 votes, while Koseck earned 974 votes. The candidates defeated Sandra Egeler (715 votes) and Alex Slocum (352 votes).

"I'm looking forward to seeing the positive things we can do for the township," Koseck said. "The township needed a change and needs help, and you can either sit back or go and do something about it. I feel that I'm pretty level-headed and hope those traits will help me do good things for the township."

Schmidt is also excited about bringing policy changes to the township board.

"We want to involve the citizens more with townhall meetings outside the regular board meetings," he said. "We are four different people who came together as a slate during the election, and we're looking forward to that carrying over in our work on the board."

Both the Sylvan Township clerk and treasurer races were uncontested. Douglas Smith collected 1,304 votes in his bid for clerk, while Rodney Branham received 1,280 votes in his bid for treasurer.

"It's a new board and we're all looking forward to serving Sylvan Township," Cooper said.
