Global Marketplace, Vogel's & Foster's Donate Portion of Holiday Revenue to Chelsea Schools

The local businesses raised a combined $1,300 during a three-day Black Friday sale in Chelsea.

Two Chelsea business owners are giving back to the community with a donation of $1,300 to the Chelsea School District.

Mike Jackson, owner of Vogel's & Foster's, and Kevin Frahm, owner of the Global Marketplace, partnered together for the inaugural Chelsea Gold fundraiser Nov. 23-25.

As part of Small Business Saturday, the stores donated a percentage of sales to the schools during the traditional opening weekend of the Christmas shopping season.

"It’s a way to remind the community to shop local and keep your money local," Jackson said about the program. "I came up with the idea because I think its a nice way to give back to the community."

Sales for the weekend exceeded Jackson's expectations, and he was able to donate $800 to the schools. Frahm also raised roughly $500 during the three-day promotion.

"Our stellar schools draw people to the community, who then shop at our downtown stores," Jackson said. "I think its important to support the district anyway that we, as merchants, are able to do."

In 2013, Jackson plans to encourage all Chelsea businesses to participate and donate a percentage of sales for the weekend.
