October In Chelsea: Fall Fun, Festivals & More

Fall is officially here in Chelsea, and there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what’s happening close to home.

Here are some events and activities happening in and around Chelsea this October.

St. Louis Center Trunk Or Treat

When: Wednesday, Oct. 21, 5–7 p.m.
Where: St. Louis Center, 16195 W. Old US Highway 12, Chelsea, MI

Celebrate Halloween with the St. Louis Center Trunk or Treat, a free community event featuring decorated trunks, a haunted house and activities for all ages. The festivities begin at 5 p.m., including a community dinner. Prizes for the best trunk, spookiest trunk and best costume will be awarded at 6:30 p.m.

TimberTown Trail Fest

When: Saturday, Oct. 24; event times vary by activity
Where: TimberTown Park and Veterans Park, 5810 and 5825 Sibley Road, Chelsea, MI

TimberTown Trail Fest brings a full day of outdoor fall activities to Chelsea's parks along the Border to Border Trail. Highlights include a timed 5K run and walk, 1-mile Kids Dash, outdoor yoga, storybook scavenger hunt and cornhole tournament, with several activities free to participate in. Registration is $35 for the 5K and $15 for the Kids Dash, with race proceeds supporting the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative and Border to Border Trail.

Chelsea Farmers Market

When: Wednesdays, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m.–1 p.m., throughout October
Where: Wednesdays at Chelsea State Bank, 1010 S. Main St.; Saturdays at Palmer Commons, 304 S. Main St., Chelsea, MI

Shop for locally grown and produced goods at the Chelsea Farmers Market, held twice weekly through the end of October. Vendors offer seasonal fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, eggs, honey, maple syrup, breads and baked goods, herbs and handcrafted items, with musical entertainment and special events also featured during the season. The market participates in several food assistance programs, including SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks.

Blast Corn Maze At Nixon Farms

When: Fridays through Sundays through Nov. 1; Fridays, 5–9 p.m.; Saturdays, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; Sundays, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
Where: Nixon Farms, 6175 Daly Road, Dexter, MI

Get lost in 14 acres of fall fun at the Blast Corn Maze at Nixon Farms, just a short drive out from Chelsea. General admission includes the corn maze, hayride, cow train, pedal cart races, straw maze, pumpkin patch, farm animals, corn box and other activities, with shorter maze routes available for younger visitors. October also brings special events, including Glow Maze nights on Fridays, Oct. 9, 16 and 23, when visitors can navigate the maze after dark with glow sticks; general admission is $16 for adults and $13 for children ages 5–12.

Wiard's Country Fair

When: Wednesdays through Sundays throughout October, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. (November hours vary; call ahead to confirm)
Where: Wiard's Orchards & Country Fair, 5565 Merritt Road, Ypsilanti, MI

About a half-hour from Chelsea, Wiard's Country Fair offers a full lineup of fall activities, including a corn maze, wagon rides, petting farm, mini golf, playgrounds and a pumpkin patch. There are also special events running through the season, including a Kids Market on Saturday, Oct. 24, and Run Scream Run on Halloween, followed by fall-food sampling Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1. Country Fair admission is ticketed, while the Country Store and Bakery can be visited without admission; pumpkins and U-pick produce cost extra.
