2 Arrested in Alleged Armed Robbery of Sunglasses

Two 19-year-olds are in custody after allegedly walking into a Royal Oak café, showing a gun and demanding the victim's Cartier sunglasses.

Two people have been arrested and charged with armed robbery after they allegedly stole a customer’s designer sunglasses at gunpoint Saturday night at the Bean & Leaf Café.

The Royal Oak Police Department said in a news release tht Jawson Chappell Ware, 19, of Southfield, and Natalian Tyron Ringo, 19, of Detroit, showed a handgun and demanded the Cartier sunglasses from the victim, who has not been identified.

Police said the two men were part of a larger group standing outside the caf, located at 106 S. Main St., about 10:50 p.m. Two females from the group reportedly walked into the business and struck up a conversation with the victim and his friend, then rejoined the group.

With moments, police said, Ware and Ringo demanded the sunglasses and then fled with the group toward Emagine Theatre.

Royal Oak police responded after the victim called 911 to report the crime, and the entire group was detained by Emagine security. It was determined only Ware and Ringo were allegedly involved in the robbery and the others were released.

Police recovered the sunglasses and the handgun allegedly used in the robbery.

“The officers involved in this incident did a great job of quickly locating and arresting the people responsible,” Royal Oak Police Chief Corrigan O’Donohue said. “I would also like to commend Emagine security who were able to quickly identify which theater the suspects entered and assist with their detention.”

Ware and Ringo were charged with one count each of armed robbery, which is punishable by up to life in prison. On Monday, the two were arraigned before 44th District Court Judge Derek Meinecke, who set Ware’s bond at $75,000 and Ringo’s bond at $50,000. Their next court date Jan. 23.

Ware was previously convicted on a larceny charge, and Ringo is currently on probation for carrying a concealed weapon, according to the release.
