Walton Charter Academy Basketball Team Wins National Heritage Academies State Championship

Administrators at Walton Charter Academy, a tuition-free public charter school in Pontiac, are proud to announce that the school’s basketball team recently won the National Heritage Academies (NHA) State Championship againstGreat Oaks Academy with a final score of 51-27. As a result of their victory in the finals, 8th graders on the team finished their basketball careers at Walton undefeated, going 30-0 in back-to-back seasons ending in championships, and 54-0 dating back to when they started playing basketball for the school as 5th graders.

“The team’s success is directly attributed to their hard work and staying focused on a goal that they set for themselves to win a second straight Championship,” said Head Coach Christopher Williams, Sr. “The 8th grade team members wanted to finish their Walton playing days undefeated, and they did just that! Congratulations to them for their hard work, dedication, and commitment.”

The Championship game high scorer for Walton was Milton Caples with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 block shots. The Divisional Championship high scorer was CJ Wilson with 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Walton Charter Academy has been competing in basketball for 11 years and runs two teams of 8th and 7th grade Varsity and 6th and 5th grade Junior Varsity. The boys’ basketball team has won five NHA East Michigan State Championships, competing against local charter and private schools.
