Autopsy: Infant Died of Blunt Force Trauma; Dad's Throat Was Slit
Daryne Gailey, 29, was described by neighbors as a devoted father to 7-month-old daughter who didn't want the divorce his mother pushed.

More details are emerging about the murder of a 7-month-old infant and the death of her father in Oxford Township over the weekend.
Oakland County Sheriff’s officials said the death of Charley Lillian Hendrick, 7 months, was ruled a homicide. She died of a blunt force trauma to the head and her father, Daryne Gailey, 29, died of a deep cut to his throat with a box cutter, according to a news release.
Police have not said if his death was a homicide.

The bodies of the two were discovered at Gailey’s Oxford Township home Sunday morning after Oakland County authorities were asked to conduct a welfare check after Gailey’s father, who lives in Huntington Woods, said it was unusual he hadn’t seen his son.
A 65-year-old woman, who has not been identified but is believed to be Gailey’s mother was hospitalized with lacerations to her arm. She had not yet been interviewed by authorities Monday evening.

The scene inside the house in 140 block of Kintyre near South Lapeer Road and West Drahner Road was “very chaotic,” authorities said.
The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News are reporting that Daryne Gailey was mentally disabled and his mother, Sylvia Majewska, had filed for a protection order against his ex-wife, Amanda Gailey, during the couple’s divorce proceedings.
The two married in August 2013, and his Majewska filed papers to have the marriage annulled earlier this year, saying her son lacked the mental capacity to marry. She has had legal guardianship of her son, who suffers from a cognitive disorder that causes seizures, since his childhood.
The protection – granted after Amanada Gailey, who reportedly has been diagnosed with a bipolr disorder, became increasingly violent toward her ex-husband, kicking him in the groin and throwing a cell phone at him – was lifted in July.
Amanda Gailey had legal custody of their child, but Daryne Gailey had visitation rights every other Friday night as long as his mother was present. He did not return the child Saturday night as scheduled, and the infant’s mother asked police to do a welfare check. They did, but did not find Gailey at his home or at another residence in the area.

Daryne Gailey had worked at a Kroger’s store in Lake Orion for 15 years. A woman who identified herself as an assistant manager told the Free Press he had “a great big heart,” was well-liked by customers at the store and his death left the community in shock.
Neighbors interviewed by the Free Press said he was a devoted father, got along well with his ex-wife and did not want the divorce/annulment, which became final earlier this month.
Nearby neighbor Charles Miller said Majewska wanted her son and former daughter-in-law to put the baby up for adoption and “didn’t want nothing to do with that baby.”
Michele Miller described Majewska as a domineering individual who “controls him and everything he does.” Police were frequently called to the house when Majewska was present to arbitrate arguments between the two, the Millers said.
Gailey’s father, who is divorced from Majewska, declined requests for interviews from the Free Press.
No one is in custody, and police are continuing their investigation.
