Blockbuster in Clawson to Close, Need a Gumball Machine?

Dish Network is closing 300 Blockbusters stores across the country.

Dish Network Corp, which owns Blockbuster, plans to close 21 stores in Michigan this spring, including the one in Clawson.

The Blockbuster at 1255 W. 14 Mile Rd. has stopped renting movies and begun the liquidation process. Prices on older movies are $9.99. New movies are priced between $9.99 and $14.99. The store is offering 10 percent off new DVDs and Blu-Rays and 20 percent off of games.

In addition, bargain hunters will find deals on office furniture, wire shelves, cleaning and safety equipment, candy, and crates of soda. Even the store gumball machine is for sale.

The closure is part of an announced plan to close 300 stores across the country. About 500 Blockbuster stores were closed last year.

The Clawson store will close April 7. Aside from local Red Boxes, Thomas Video at 4732 Rochester Rd. will be the only video rental spot in the area.
