Β Β Β Β Β Β The Coburn-Kleinfeldt Eye Clinic will offer free
medical eye screenings for City of Detroit retirees on Thursday, May 29, 2014
at its Madison Heights office. A
board-certified ophthalmologist will examine patients for glaucoma, diabetic
eye disease (retinopathy), macular degeneration, and cataracts.Β The exams will be free and patientsβ
insurance will not be charged.Β Detroit police
and fire retirees as well as general City of Detroit retirees are eligible.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β βWe have offered free medical eye screenings as a community service since the 2009 recession when we found that some individuals were not having regular eye exams because their insurance coverage had changed or they were concerned about copays and deductibles.Β At oneΒ
screening, more than one-third of the individuals we examined had a serious eye
condition.Β Eye disease is more common
after age 65 and if it is not treated early, permanent vision loss can sometimes
result,β said Nate Kleinfeldt, M.D., a board-certified ophthalmologist.
