From Hell to Paradise, BuzzFeed Explains Why Michigan is Best U.S. State

BuzzFeed had us at the No. 1 reason Michigan may be the greatest state among America’s 50:

“We may be the only place in the world where you can find cities named both Paradise and Hell.”

Oh, Hell, yes.

And Buzzfeed, an Internet media company founded as a viral lab in 2006, kept us with No. 3 reason Michigan is hot stuff – “We brew beers like nobody’s business” – and then held us right on through No. 37:

“And let’s face it, Michigan basically owns the Great Lakes.”

“We’re in prime position to win the coming apocalyptic water wars,” staff writer Ahmed Ali Akbar jabs. “Canada, New York, and Wisconsin can suck it.”

Oh, heck, yes.

In between, Akbar cites the state’s “insane” number of chart-topping musicians and its influence on the industry; Michigan’s natural beauty, from the Sleeping Bear Dunes, named the most beautiful place in America, to the Upper Peninsula; a world class arts museum that includes works by Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Matisse; and Superman ice cream and Faygo soda.

There’s more, including Michigan’s gift to weekend warriors with the 40-hour work week introduced by favorite son Henry Ford long before the federal government mandated it.
