'I Need Sun': Police Nab Naked Man Sprinting Toward Sunshine

There has to be a song in this, or at least some haiku.

A Troy was arrested in Madison Heights Tuesday afternoon sprinting naked into the sun.

“I need to go where the sun is at,” the man, 25, told police when they caught up with running west on 12 Mile near Stephenson Highway about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, The (Royal Oak) Daily Tribune reports.

This was no spring fling. It was mighty nippy when the man went for his commando run. The temperature was in the 20s, but a steady, biting wind made it feel like a 10. The naked man was covered in goosebumps when police finally caught up with him and got him under control.

That was no easy feat. It took several officers to corral the naked man, who resisted arrest with his insistence on going where the sun was shining, police said.

Detective Sgt. Mark Zupic of the Madison Heights Police Department said the man took “an aggressive stance” at one point and “pushed the officer who was trying to help him.”

After a short chase, police grappled the free-spirited sprinter to the ground and handcuffed him. Zupic said the man appeared disoriented and “didn’t know where he was or how he got to that location.”

There are no charges pending against the man, though “he did tell an officer that he had smoked some weed,” Zupic said.

Instead of jail, he was taken to a local hospital and admitted for psychiatric observation and evaluation.
