Man Shoved at Hank Williams Jr. Concert May Not Survive

The Wayne teen taken into custody has been released pending a thorough investigation by Oakland County Sheriff's deputies.

A 55-year-old Westland man is in “very grave condition” and on life support at an area hospital after hitting his head on the concrete when he was allegedly shoved to the ground by a 15-year-old at a Hank Williams Jr. concert Sunday evening, police said.

The suspect, who is from Wayne, has been released from Oakland County Children’s Village pending further investigation by Oakland County Sheriff’s detectives of the incident at the DTE Energy Music Theatre about 9 p.m. Sunday.

“The prosecutor’s office and the juvenile referee have decided to release the suspect pending further investigation by sheriff’s detectives,” the OCSO said in a statement. “They will then determine what charges if any may be appropriate.”

The victim’s family was at the hospital today and sheriff’s officials have spoken with them,” according to the statement.

Sheriff’s deputies found the victim in a pool of blood at the concert. Witnesses said the suspect tried to flee, but was detained by other concertgoers until police arrived. He was detained, and he and his father were taken to the Independence Township substation to be interviewed.

The victim was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac.
