Middle School Swimmers Compete Against Shrine

No official shows up for meet so teams swim anyway and sharpen skills.

It had all the makings of a great swim meet — parents and fans, home and visiting teams, a pool and all the timing helpers — just no official to oversee the event. So Clawson and Shrine swam anyway with Shrine taking an 81-72 win Tuesday evening. This is the second win this season Shrine has achieved over Clawson.

"We're coming together," said Clawson Head Coach Naomi Watts. "We had everyone who was able to participate here today. That's 30 swimmers, both girls and boys."

The co-ed team, which includes a large number of sixth graders who only compete in exhibition events, is showing positive strides.

"The team is continually improving," Watts said. "Shrine is one of our favorite teams to compete against. The kids are real similiar, they're from this area and it's a close meet each time."

Watts, who is directing the team for the third year, said this is "my best team and my best coaching by far."
