Migrant Workers Think They're Under Fire, Duck for Cover

A couple living nearby was target shooting when one a stray bullet struck a farm worker in the stomach. Charges are expected.

For a few moments Monday evening, about 40 migrant crouched in fear after one of them was struck in a spray of bullets they thought were part of an attack on their work crew at a Raisinville Township farm.

But when deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office traced the source of the gunfire, they found a couple target shooting nearby WWJ/CBS Detroit and The Detroit News report.

The injured worker underwent surgery to remove a bullet from his stomach. He’s expected to survive.

The couple, a 26-year-old Monroe man and his 23-year-old wife, told police they didn’t know one of the bullets had struck the man. The target they were using in their back yard was in line with where the workers had been working about 250 yards away.

It’s likely they’ll be charged with discharging a firearm causing injury.
