New Road Projects May Affect Clawson Commute
Road construction season is winding down in Oakland County, but some projects may affect your commute.

The following projects may cause traffic delays on Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) roads between Nov. 26 and Dec. 3 or may start shortly thereafter.
It is RCOC’s goal to conduct road improvement projects in a way that interferes with traffic as little as possible. This list includes both Road Commission projects and projects conducted by others, under permit, on roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission.
Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects can change from day to day, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather, emergency situations, etc.

*ROAD: Tienken Road, Livernois Road to the Paint Creek Trail
Project: This section of Tienken remains closed. Most of the work is done (reconstruct, widen to three lanes and construct a roundabout at the Tienken/Livernois intersection). However, it has been too cold to place the final layer of asphalt, so that has been postponed until spring. As soon as the subcontractor stripes the road and installs signs, the road will be opened for the winter. If weather permits, that should be done by the end of next week.
Community: Rochester Hills
Completion Date: Open by approximately Dec. 5 if weather permits
ROAD: Fish Lake Road between Mitchell and Kurtz roads
Project: This section of Fish Lake Road remains closed due to a collapsed culvert under the road. Due to Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) requirements, it could be some time before RCOC is able to re-open the road. The detour route is Mitchell Road to North Holly Road to Elliott Road and back to Fish Lake Road and vice versa.
Community: Holly Twp.
Completion Date: Unknown
*ROAD: 14 Mile Road at the east side of Northwestern Highway
Project: One lane of 14 Mile Road is open in each direction at the east side of the intersection with Northwestern Highway, though 14 Mile traffic is being controlled temporarily with stop signs. Reconstruction and realignment of the east leg of the intersection is done, but RCOC is waiting for traffic-signal poles so the signals can be completed. The stop signs are expected to remain in place until the poles arrive probably in mid-January. This is the first phase of the larger 14 Mile/Orchard Lake/Northwestern Highway “triangle” project, which will include construction of a roundabout at 14 Mile and Orchard Lake next year.
Community: On the Farmington Hills/West Bloomfield Township border
Completion Date: January
*ROAD: Greenfield Road from 8 Mile Road to just north of 9 Mile Road (southbound lanes only)
Project: The southbound lanes of this section of Greenfield have been reconstructed and are now open. Intermittent lane closures continue on the inside northbound lane through approximately Nov. 26 as landscape restoration and punch list items are completed.
Community: Southfield
Completion Date: Approximately end of day Nov. 26
*ROAD: Green Lake Road, Commerce Road to just east of Fieldview Street
Project: This reconstruction of this section of Green Lake is mostly complete. However, it has been too cold to place the final layer of asphalt, so that will be postponed until the spring. The road will be opened for the winter as soon as the subcontractor stripes the road and installs signs – hopefully by end of next week if weather permits. The detour route remains Richardson Road to Union Lake Road to Commerce Road and back to Green Lake Road and vice versa.
Community: West Bloomfield Twp.
Completion Date: By Dec. 5, weather permitting
ROAD: Cedar Island Road, Oxbow Lake Road to Bogie Lake Road
Project: RCOC closed this road because a culvert is collapsing that carries the Huron River under the road. It is not yet known when the road can be repaired. The detour is Bogie Lake to Cooley Lake to Oxbow Lake and back to Cedar Island and vice versa.
Community: White Lake Twp.
Completion Date: Unknown
Completed since last week:
- RCOC has essentially completed the paving of Clyde Road, Hickory Ridge Road to Strathcona Street in Highland Township. It has been too cold to place the final layer of asphalt, so that will be done in the spring. The road is open.
