Police Arrest Woman in Death of Newborn Found in Recycling Bin
Community rallies around Henry Alexander Macomb, the name given the infant by the coroner's office. "He deserves a name," police chief says.

Police have arrested an unidentified 24-year-old woman in connection with the death of a newborn found Jan. 14 after he was abandoned in a recycling bin and found by workers at a Roseville recycling center
Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said the mother of the infant will be charged with murder, abandonment and other charges, The Macomb Daily reports. She was arrested after police received a local tip.
“This is due to the help of the media and the public, and the hard work of our detectives who have been working around the clock on this case for the past 10 days.”

After the gruesome discovery, police ruled out a link to a Lansing area woman – already facing charges in the 2013 death of one newborn – who told authorities she couldn’t recall the whereabouts of a boy she’d given birth to in December 2014.
The nude baby, his umbilical cord still attached, was wrapped in a torn black T-shirt when discovered by workers at the ReCommunity Recycling on Groesbeck. The baby was estimated to be one to three days old, The Detroit News reports.

Residents and organizations in the Roseville community allied last week and donated money for a funeral and burial for the baby, named Henry Alexander Macomb by employees of the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The middle and surnames reference the county’s namesake, Gen. Alexander Macomb.
“They thought he looked like a Henry,” Berlin said. “He deserves a name. He deserves to be more than a number.”
Kaul Funeral Home in Roseville is donating its services for the infant, manager Timothy McGillen told The Detroit News earlier this month. It’s unclear when the funeral and burial in Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road, in Clinton Township, will be held.
Rizzo Environmental Services and the Clinton Township Firefighters Association Local 11381 will be a headstone for the baby’s grave.
