Road Construction Alert: Some Delays Possible Near Oakland County Projects

The following projects may cause traffic delays on Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) roads thourgh Oct. 8 or may start shortly thereafter.

It is RCOC’s goal to conduct road improvement projects in a way that interferes with traffic as little as possible. This list includes both Road Commission projects and projects conducted by others, under permit, on roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission.

Asterisks next to projects denote new projects or a change since last week.

ROAD: Tienken Road, Livernois Road to the Paint Creek Trail

Project: This section of Tienken is closed while RCOC reconstructs and widens the road to three lanes, with a continuous center left-turn lane, and constructs a roundabout at the Tienken/Livernois intersection. The detour route for through traffic is Rochester Road to University Drive to Adams and back to Tienken and vice versa.

Community: Rochester Hills

Completion Date: Nov. 15 (the second phase, from Rochester Rd. to the Paint Creek Trail will take place next year)

ROAD: Fish Lake Road between Mitchell and Kurtz roads

Project: This section of Fish Lake Road remains closed due to a collapsed culvert under the road. Due to Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) requirements, it could be some time before RCOC is able to re-open the road. The detour route is Mitchell Road to North Holly Road to Elliott Road and back to Fish Lake Road and vice versa.

ROAD: Big Beaver Road, Adams to I-75

Project: There are intermittent lane closures in this section of Big Beaver as RCOC and the City of Troy jointly replace some concrete slabs. Work is currently taking place in the eastbound lanes. Once that is done, work will move to the westbound lanes.

ROAD: Crooks Road between Wattles and Square Lake roads

Project: There are intermittent lane closures in this section of Crooks as RCOC and the City of Troy jointly replace some concrete slabs.

*ROAD: Dequindre Road between 14 Mile and Big Beaver roads

Project: There are lane closures in this section of Dequindre whileRCOC and the City of Troy jointly replace bad concrete slabs.

Community: On the Troy/Sterling Heights border

*ROAD: Vassar Road between McClelland Road and the Genesee County line

Project: This section of Vassar is closed because of a failing culvert under the road. The road will remain closed while the culvert is being replaced. The detour route is McClelland to Dixie Highway to East Baldwin (in Genesee County) and back to Vassar and vice versa.

Community: On the Holly Twp./Groveland Twp. border

Completion Date: By Oct. 4

ROAD: 14 Mile Road at the east side of Northwestern Highway

Project: 14 Mile Road is closed at the east side of the intersection with Northwestern Highway while RCOC reconstructs and realigns the east leg of the intersection as the first phase of the larger 14 Mile/Orchard Lake/Northwestern Highway “triangle” project. The detour route for through traffic is Middlebelt Road to Northwestern Highway and back to 14 Mile and vice versa.

Community: On the Farmington Hills/West Bloomfield Township border

Completion Date: November

ROAD: Greenfield Road from 8 Mile Road to just north of 9 Mile Road (southbound lanes only)

Project: The southbound lanes of this section of Greenfield are closed while they are reconstructed. Southbound traffic has been shifted onto the northbound side of Greenfield for the duration of the project.

Community: Southfield

Completion Date: Open to traffic by Oct. 31

ROAD: Clyde Road, Hickory Ridge to Strathcona

Project: This section of Clyde Road is closed while RCOC paves this gravel road. The detour route is Hickory Ridge to Middle Road to Milford Road and back to Clyde and vice versa.

Community: Highland Twp.

Completion Date: Mid-November

ROAD: Williams Lake Road at Airport Road

Project: RCOC is widening this intersection. There are intermittent lane closures.

Community: Waterford Twp.

Completion Date: Mid-November

ROAD: Baldwin Road from south of I-75 to Brown Road

Project: RCOC is removing and replacing this section of Baldwin Road. The road remains open during the work, but is reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists should expect delays.

Community: Auburn Hills and Orion Twp.

ROAD: Green Lake Road, Commerce Road to just east of Fieldview Street

Project: This section of Green Lake is closed while RCOCreconstructs the road. The detour route is Richardson Road to Union Lake Road to Commerce Road and back to Green Lake Road and vice versa.

Community: West Bloomfield Twp.

Completion Date: Nov. 14

ROAD: Green Lake Road, Pontiac Trail to Fieldview Street

Project: RCOC will begin repaving this section of Green Lake on approximately Oct. 6. During the project, the road will remain open, but will be reduced to one lane, with traffic directed by flaggers.

Community: West Bloomfield Twp.

Completion Date: Mid-November

ROAD: Walnut Lake Road between Franklin and Halsted roads

Project: RCOC is resurfacing of this section of Walnut Lake. The road will remain open, but will be reduced to one lane in places, with traffic directed by flaggers.

Community: West Bloomfield and Bloomfield townships

Completion Date: Open to traffic approximately Oct. 17

*ROAD: Hickory Grove Road, between Square Lake and Franklin roads

Project: This section of Hickory Grove is closed to through traffic while Bloomfield Township resurfaces the road. During the closure, the detour route is Square Lake Road to Franklin Road and back to Hickory Grove and vice versa.

Community: Bloomfield Twp.

Completion Date: Approx. Oct. 3

*ROAD: Holcomb Road between Davisburg and Miller roads

Project: RCOC is resurfacing this section of Holcomb. It remains open to traffic but is reduced to one lane with traffic directed by flaggers.

Community: Springfield and Independent townships

Completion Date: Mid October

ROAD: Dawson Road over the Huron River (between S. Garner and Milford roads)

Project: This section of Dawson is closed while RCOC performs maintenance on the Dawson Road bridge over the Huron River. The detour route is S. Garner Road to General Motors Road to Martindale Road and back to Dawson Road and vice versa.

Community: Milford Twp.

Completion Date: By approximately Oct. 10

ROAD: Jackson Boulevard over the White Lake Canal (between Ormond and Eagle roads)

Project: This section of Jackson Blvd. is closed while RCOCperforms maintenance on the Jackson Boulevard bridge over the White Lake canal. The detour route is Eagle Road to White Lake Road to Ormond Road and back to Jackson Boulevard and vice versa.

Community: White Lake Twp.

Completion Date: By approximately Oct. 10

ROAD: Pontiac Lake Road culvert over the Pontiac Lake (between M-59 and Teggerdine Road)

Project: Beginning in mid-October, this section of Pontiac Lake Road will be closed while RCOC performs maintenance on this culvert. During the closure, the detour route will be M-59 to Fisk Road and back to Pontiac Lake Road and vice versa.

Community: White Lake Twp.

Completion Date: By Oct. 31

ROAD: Southfield Road at 10 Mile Road

Project: RCOC is replacing bad concrete slabs at this intersection. At least one lane remains open in all directions, but all left turns are prohibited. Motorists should expect delays.

ROAD: Long Lake Road, Orchard Lake Road to Adams Road

Project: There are lane closures on this section of Long Lake whileRCOC resurfaces the road. At times, the road will be reduced to one lane, with traffic directed by flaggers.

Community: West Bloomfield Twp., Bloomfield Twp. and Bloomfield Hills

Completion Date: By Nov. 15

ROAD: Cedar Island Road, Oxbow Lake Road to Bogie Lake Road

Project: RCOC closed this road when it discovered part of the road was collapsing over a culvert carrying the Huron River under the road. It is not yet known how quickly the road can be repaired. The detour route is Bogie Lake to Cooley Lake to Oxbow Lake and back to Cedar Island and vice versa.

Community: White Lake Twp.

*ROAD: Livernois Road between Big Beaver and Wattles roads

Project: RCOC will close this section of Livernois from approximately Oct. 13 to approximately Oct. 24 to replace the Lane Drain culvert under the road. During the closure, the detour route will be Big Beaver to Rochester to Wattles and back to Livernois and vice versa.

Community: Troy

Completion Date: By approximately Oct. 24

*ROAD: Andersonville Road between Big Lake Road and Hogback Lake Road

Project: The CN Railroad has closed this section of Andersonville Road to remove a rail crossing (one of two sets of tracks). During the closure, the detour route is White Lake Road to Ormond Road to Davisburg Road and back to Andersonville and vice versa.

Community: Springfield Twp.

Completion Date: By end of day today, Oct. 1

*ROAD: Big Lake Road between Andersonville and Hillsborough roads

Project: The CN Railroad will close this section of Big Lake Road on Thursday, Oct. 2, to repair its railroad crossing. The detour route will be Andersonville Road to White Lake Road to Ormond road and back to Big Lake Road and vice versa.

Community: Springfield Twp.

Completion Date: End of day, Oct. 2

*ROAD: Eastbound 12 Mile Road west of Telegraph Road

Project: The outside eastbound lane of 12 Mile Road is closed just west of Telegraph while AT&T makes repairs to its service under the road. Work is expected to be finished and the lane re-opened Thursday afternoon or evening (Oct. 2).

Community: Southfield

Completion Date: Thursday evening, Oct. 2

*ROAD: Van Road at Grange Hall Road

Project: This intersection will be closed Oct. 13 to 15 while RCOCpaves the gravel approach of Van Road to Grange Hall. The detour route will be Tripp Road to Dixie Highway to Perryville Road and back to Van Road and vice versa.

Community: Groveland twp.

Completion Date: Oct. 15

*ROAD: Tindall Road and Rattalee Lake Road intersection (west of I-75)

Project: This intersection will be closed from Oct. 21 to 23 whileRCOC paves the gravel approach of Tindall to Rattalee Lake. The detour route will be Bigelow Road to Davisburg Road to Eaton Road and back to Rattalee Lake and vice versa.

Community: Springfield Twp.

Completion Date: Oct. 23

*ROAD: RCOC expects to pave the following sections of road tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 2), which will result in lane closures for the day:

- Elizabeth Lake Road – a 700-foot section midway between Union Lake and Williams Lake roads in White Lake Twp.

- Clarkston Road west of Sashabaw Road in Independence Twp.

- Seymour Lake Road near Dunlap Road in Oxford Twp.

- Union Lake Road north of Cooley Lake Road in Commerce Twp.

- Baldwin Road west of Coats/Indianwood Road in Orion Twp.

Completed since last week:

- Independence Twp. has completed repairs to a previous road patch on White Lake Road south of Dixie Highway in the township and all lanes are now open.

- RCOC has completed the resurfacing of 800 feet of 10 Mile Road just west of Telegraph Road in Southfield and all lanes are open.

- RCOC replaced a culvert under North Holly Road between Elliot and Quick roads in Holly Twp. and the road was re-opened.
