Stuff-a-Backpack Drive Continues at City Hall

Drop off new school supplies at the third annual Stuff-a-Backpack Drive now through Aug. 19.

The r has returned to Clawson for its third year to collect back-to-school supplies for local children in need.

Sponsored by the , the Stuff-a-Backpack Drive will run from now until Aug. 19. 

Stop by the drop-box in City Hall to donate to the cause, with all items benefiting needy children in the Clawson Public Schools district.

Supplies needed include paper and notebooks, glue sticks, folders and binders, rulers, scissors, coloring pencils and markers, pens as well as new or gently used backpacks.

“Many families have trouble with the cost of school supplies because they are very expensive,” Clawson Detective Scott Sarvello said. “This program assists many families and helps relieve the burden of these costs.”

At the beginning of every school year, students in each grade receive a list of school supplies that will be needed throughout the term. The backpacks are filled with these items according to the students’ ages. Any items that are left over are turned over to the school district to be distributed based on further need.

In 2009, 97 backpacks were stuffed; last year 154 wer filled. The Police Department is hoping this year will see even greater success.
