Water damage "near-miss" Thanks to a water alarm.

Hi There,

We have a simple water alarm that sits on our basement floor in the laundry room. We placed it near the drain to alert us to any leaks from the water heater , washer or drain backup. Well this little guy did it's job yesterday and alerted us to the floor drain backing up from running the washer and showering. (Had never been an issue before). The alarm was placed on the floor about 3 feet from the drain so it didn't take long to go off. Luckily we were home and able to address the backup before the water got too far out. All we had was a small area of wet carpet to dry and had to sanitize the floor. We were able to plunge the drain quickly to fix the local backup.

I highly suggest for anyone to get a Water Alarm. They can be found at Home Depot, Lowes or other hardware stores. Ours is a battery type and portable. Can be placed anywhere in the house near water source. (Bathroom, kitchen sink, laundry room, water heater, drains, sump pumps. Higher end models are available too that can send an alert.

And if you have not had your drains snaked out, you might want to add it to the "to do" list.

We provide water damage cleanup and have seen some large nasty losses. This little guy saved me from a major sewage clean up at my own home.
