Whiz Kid of the Week: Bryan Lakey

Clawson High School junior has plans to attend the University of Michigan and enter the field of chemistry as a professor.

Bryan Lakey

  • Age: 16
  • School:
  • Accomplishment: National Honor Society member excelling in sports, music and academics
  • Key to awesomeness: Multi-sport participant — center in basketball and both low and high hurdles for track as well as discus and shot put — member of the National Honor Society, takes advanced classes at the Center for Advanced Studies and the Arts (CASA) and is a trombone player in the band. The 3.88 GPA student drives to Clawson from Pontiac every day. With plans to eventually teach as a chemistry professor, Lakey is working to attend the University of Michigan when he graduates from high school. Working as a backup on the basketball team, Lakey draws high praise from head coach Bill Shellenbarger Jr. "Incredible character, incredible attitude," Shellenbarger said. "Academics are his primary goal. He will get into Michigan and be very successful. He comes to practice every day and 'busts his butt'."
