Whiz Kid of the Week: Kayla Hamby

Clawson senior Kayla Hamby wins the Evans Scholarship to Michigan State University to study Kinesiology.

  • Name: Kayla Hamby, 18
  • School:
  • Accomplishment: Winner of the Evans Scholarship and will attend Michigan State University in the fall of 2011.
  • Key to Awesomeness: Kinesiology  — the study of movement — and keeping up with Hamby is just that. Participating in the National Honor Society, student senate, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), senior class treasurer and a starter on both the volleyball and basketball teams, Hamby plans to put all that motion to work in her chosen major. Entering Michigan State in the fall, the Red Run Golf Club caddy wants to extend her love of sports by possibly becoming a physical therapist focusing on either childhood physical therapy or sports related injuries. Hamby also wants to continue her athletic career on the MSU intramural fields as well. The scholarship is a full, four-year tuition and housing scholarship and is overseen by the Western Golf Association, which also runs three prestigious golf tournaments, including the BMW Championship.
