1 Dead, 2 Critically Hurt In Clinton Township Head-On Crash: Police

Police said the crash happened near a curved portion of Groesbeck Highway that has a posted speed limit of 50 miles per hour.​

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A woman was killed and two other people, including an 8-year-old girl were critically injured after a head-on crash in Clinton Township on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

A 51-year-old Macomb Township woman was driving a gray 2019 Chevrolet Suburban south on Groesbeck Highway, just south of North Avenue with her 8-year-old daughter inside the SUV, police said.

The Suburban then had to make an "evasive maneuver," which caused her SUV to cross left of center and into oncoming traffic at 5:22 p.m. when the SUV struck a tan 2020 Lincoln Nautilus head-on, police said.

Both SUVs then caught fire, which was extinguished by a passing motorist who stopped to render aid, police said.

The driver of the Suburban and her daughter had to be extracted from the SUV and were taken to a nearby hospital, where the woman died and her daughter was listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the Lincoln, a 50-year-old woman from Macomb Township, also had to be extracted from her SUV and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was also listed in critical condition, police said.

Police said the crash happened near a curved portion of Groesbeck Highway that has a posted speed limit of 50 miles per hour. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
